Edward Anthony Jenner known as "father of Immunology" was an English surgeon who is famous for the discovery of the smallpox vaccine.

Around 18th century, Smallpox was widespread with occasional outbreaks of special intensity resulted in a very high death rate. He developed a primitive form of vaccination which was the only means then of combating small pox. this was the first successful vaccine to be developed and the only effective and preventive treatment for Smallpox. 

This discovery of Edward Jenner saved countless lives.

Smallpox was declared an eliminated disease in 1980 by World Health Organisation.
